Veneer interrogates the stability of the photographic image, unsettling its claim to coherence and truth. Through processes of separation and spatial reconfiguration, images are fractured across sculptural forms, producing moments of tension, slippage, and heightened attention. What emerges are partial views, never fully resolved where meaning shifts with the position of the viewer. Drawing from sculptural forms, moving image, and photographic archives, the work constructs environments in which fragments are held in a state of fragile relation. Material plays a critical role in this disruption: uses use of wax acts as a material to obscure and bind together photographic histories. Through layering, reflection, and physical distance, surfaces simultaneously reveal and withhold.Extending an ongoing interest in veneers as both material and metaphor, the work lingers on the instability between appearance and experience. In a culture saturated with images, Veneer resists seamlessness and polish, instead foregrounding fragmentation, ambiguity, and the uneasy space between what is seen and what remains concealed.
